Pierce County Community Newspapers is looking for an Advertising/Sales Representative in Tacoma, Wash (a city of nearly 200,000 located 30 miles south of Seattle). We have four thriving community newspapers serving Tacoma, Fife, Milton/Edgewood, and the Puyallup Tribe of Indians.
Candidates must have experience selling, managing and development of new businesses, as well as maintaining existing customers. This positions requires creating presentations, setting appointments, developing needs assessments, selling proposals, and maintaining existing customers while prospecting for new business.
REQUIREMENTS: B.A. in marketing, business, communication strongly preferred. Two (2) years of prior sales experience, preferably newspaper, media, online, and special section experience. Must be self motivated, outgoing individual with the ability to work with the public and advertisers. You should have a good understanding of all facets of newspaper operations with emphasis on sales and marketing. You should also have strong internet and social media skills and be well-suited to working with government, community groups and clients in creating effective advertising.
You should also possess organizational skills, attention to detail, negotiation and problem solving skills. You should also be willing to attend community events. Starting salary depends on qualifications.

Copy Editor
We need a talented copy editor/designer for our excellent midsize daily. We're looking for an innovative candidate with keen news judgment who can edit stories, write headlines and cutlines and design and paginate attractive news and feature pages under deadline pressure. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and some holidays.
A successful candidate also should have a working knowledge of social media sites and will be posting breaking news, photo galleries and more as needed to our website.
At least two years copy editing experience and a bachelor’s degree in journalism are preferred. Good organizational and time management skills are a must. Candidate must have strong grammar, editing and headline writing skills. They also should be a creative thinker and not be afraid to offer new ideas.
Must be able to work proactively with reporters, editors and other departments to produce top-quality work. Should be adept with pagination software; familiarity with QuarkXPress and knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator are a plus.

Can you can whip out a chart, graph or graphic illustration on deadline without breaking a sweat, and create compelling, clean news pages for both main news and special sections? If so, the Juneau Empire has a job waiting for you.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years experience on deadline in a daily newsroom designing pages, processing photos and seeing those pages through to the pressroom. Problem solving is part of the job, and so is keeping up with our constantly improving design and prepress technology.
Copyediting and headline writing skills are also necessary (AP Style, spelling and grammar skills are not optional), and experience uploading copy to the Web and organizing video clips for upload is highly desirable.

The Daily News of Longview, Washington, is looking for a hard-working, no-nonsense news reporter capable of specializing in coverage of health and environmental issues while handling the diverse array of news and business news assignments typical of a small or mid-sized daily.

The Daily News of Longview, Wash. has an opening for a detail-oriented copy editor / page designer who thrives on stellar design, attention-grabbing headlines and strong editing.
